Concussion Management

A concussion is a mild traumatic brain injury that affects brain function. Falls and contact sports are the most common causes of concussion.

The signs and symptoms of a concussion can be subtle and may not show up immediately. Some symptoms of concussion include:

  • Concentration and memory complaints
  • Headaches
  • Fatigue
  • Difficulties with balance and coordination
  • Irritability and other personality changes
  • Sensitivity to light and noise
  • Sleep disturbances
  • Psychological adjustment problems and depression
  • Disorders of taste and smell

Symptoms can last for days, weeks or even longer. However, most people recover fully after a concussion. If symptoms continue for more than 2 weeks, seeking support is recommended.
