Attention Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a developmental disorder that is characterised by difficulties with concentration, attention and impulse control. These characteristics have an impact on the child or adult’s day-to-day functioning.
Common signs and traits of ADHD:
In children, this may present as difficulties with attention, hyperactivity, impulsivity, and difficulty completing tasks. In adults, challenges often include focus, productivity, organisation, and emotional regulation.
Assessment helps clarify diagnosis and differentiate ADHD from other conditions affecting thinking and daily functioning.
Intervention and strategy-based support can be provided, with collaboration across referrers and relevant professionals to support implementation in everyday settings (e.g., at school or at work).
We conduct comprehensive assessments to determine an ADHD diagnosis in line with diagnostic criteria. We accept self-referrals and referrals from medical practitioners or third party payees for assessments.
Step One
Pre-assessment Consultation
This session involves discussing related concerns and to obtain relevant information including completing questionnaires about challenges and everyday functioning.
From here, the assessment is booked in based on the consultation.
Step Two
The Assessment
A comprehensive process that typically involves 2 to 4 hours of psychometric testing. Further questionnaires are sent to relevant individuals that may know the person well including their partner, parent/s and teachers. Other information is obtained and reviewed as needed including school reports or medical history information.
Step Three
Report and Feedback
Once the assessment is complete, a comprehensive report will be provided detailing the findings of the assessment. The findings will be discussed in a feedback session conducted approximately 4 weeks after the assessment.
Please note that we do not provide psychiatric care and do not prescribe medication.
You will need a GP referral to see a paediatrician or psychiatrist for medication.
An understanding of any learning difficulties and differential diagnoses are completed as part of the comprehensive neuropsychological assessment. An Autism assessment can be combined with other types of assessments if this is required or identified in the pre-assessment consultation.
Please see our Fees under New Clients page or email braincarehealth@gmail.com for details.
Our fee is inclusive of all testing required; questionnaires; review of collateral information; a comprehensive report; and a feedback session. Meetings with school or in the workplace incur additional fees.
We can provide further support after the assessment process to aid in navigating a new diagnosis and how to manage cognitive, behavioural and emotional challenges with practical and everyday strategies and intervention.
Continuity of care for children and adults with a referral to Paediatrician or Psychiatrist, and liaison with local GP is recommended for diagnosis and medication management as appropriate.
